Make the mountain summer
your personal experience

The Reiteralm offers you magnificent views far beyond the borders of the region. The mountain world of the Dachstein massif and the Tauern mountains are rich in impressions. It is worth pausing to enjoy this gift of nature and to immortalise it as a photo. The Reiteralm is easily accessible with the Preunegg Jet gondola or via the toll road. For pedestrians, the gondola and the toll road are included in the Sommercard.

Alpine hiking highlights
on the Reiteralm

The Reiteralm is one of the most beautiful alpine viewpoints in the region. With its uniquely beautiful panorama of the Dachstein massif and far beyond the borders of Styria, it offers magnificent views on every hike - whether leisurely or ambitious. With the Spiegelsee, the Reiteralm has a very unusual photo motif. When there is no wind, the Dachstein massif on the opposite side is reflected in the lake, and especially during the blossoming of the alpine bushes at the beginning of July, the views are very attractive. The mirror lake is easily accessible via a circular path.

Particularly popular: the high-altitude circular trail, No 66° 3h hike - mirror lake included!

If you start from us, the trail goes up past the mountain station of the Preunegg Jet cable car and continues along hiking trail #66 via the "Hahn'l" on the high ridge of the Reiteralm to the summit cross of the Gasselhöhe (2001 m).

After a somewhat "more leisurely" trail passage with only a few steeper sections, the trail continues along the ridge towards Rippeteck, where a somewhat gravelly ascent (approx. 15 min) takes you to the summit of Rippeteck (2,126 m). From the Rippeteck, a rather steep descent leads to the Gassel lakes.

The first is the Obere Gasselsee, also called "Obersee". The trail continues to the middle Gasselsee, the famous Spiegelsee with Dachstein reflection. From the mirror lake, the trail leads back to the starting point.

Variant via Untersee, which we recommend:
Halfway from Spiegelsee, a variant via Untersee and the "Still Waters" theme trail is possible (duration approx. 30 to 40 minutes more).

Variant via Schober, for sportsmen who can't get enough:
In the Obersee area, a path branches off towards the 3rd peak called Schober. Starting point approx. 1,920 m. For the steep ascent and descent you should reckon with about 1 hour each. The summit of the Schober is at approx. 2,133 m.

"Still waters" - small circular trail Ideal also with pushchairs

The new theme trail "Still Waters" inspires with water, silence and untouched nature. The trail starts at the Preunegg Jet mountain station or at the Reiteralmsee (reservoir). You can expect lots of water - bubbling streams - cosy resting benches - viewing platform - raft - water playgrounds with water wheels and pump - atmospheric message boards. Along trail no. 66 in the direction of Spiegelsee, you first descend to Untersee (no. 65) and past Waldsee and back to the starting point or Eiskarhütte.

Very comfortable, level panorama trail

The Eiskar Panorama Trail leaves directly from the Eiskar Hut. Busses park directly at the car park of our hut. The path runs comfortably along to the viewing area with benches for resting. There you can enjoy a wonderful view.

Perfect for those who want to take it easy and for families with prams.

Windel-Wagerl trail

Taking the little ones up the mountain - it's very easy on the Reiteralm and offers parents and the kids an enchanting experience in the midst of wonderful nature. The Windel-Wagerl-Weg is suitable for prams and older children will also discover many exciting things on this easy hike. A great playground with lots of equipment, a real slope machine, XXL trampoline ... and much more. So, off you go to play, hike and discover on the Reiteralm.

Climbing in the Tauern

The Reiteralm also has great challenges to offer for via ferrata fans. The via ferrata "Franzi" with a difficulty of C/D is the first via ferrata in the Tauern and can be climbed in about one hour from the hiking trail Spiegelsee. Wonderful views and deep vistas of Untersee Lake make this via ferrata a worthwhile destination. The via ferrata "Goas Steigl" with difficulty A/B and at one point with difficulty C is ideal for beginners and children. An entry point is also located on the hiking trail to Spiegelsee and can be reached from Preunegg Jet in about 20 minutes. Via ferrata sets can be rented at the Preunegg Jet valley station.

Here everything revolves around the wheel

The Reiteralm has long since developed into a biking mountain in summer. Near the Eiskarhütte, even the little ones can try their hand at biking on two trails with different levels of difficulty. A great thing for the kids - and even with running wheels they are already diligently practising here. The conveyor belt takes them up again. Bikes, helmets and protectors can be rented on site.

Big bike fans also have an exclusive selection of eight trails on the Reiteralm to experience nature on their bikes. From easy - such as the Eiskar Trail - to difficult - the Gassl Trail - the whole range of biking fun is ready for you to get to know. You can also transport your bike uphill in the Preunegg Jet, and there is also a service centre with rental and a bike school.

The Reiteralm can also be "conquered" uphill by bike. Whether you do it with pure muscle power or with electric tailwind is entirely up to you. In any case, it is a wonderful sporting challenge in the midst of beautiful nature. We will be happy to refill your energy reserves with our culinary delicacies at the Eiskarhütte afterwards.
